ALS : Mount Vernon, to Burwell Bassett, 1777 Dec. 22.

A letter of sympathy to her brother-in-law on the death of her sister. She offers to take his daughter Fanny and raise her at Mount Vernon. She also mentions that she plans to join her husband once his troops are in winter quarters. (Fanny did go to live with the Washingtons. She eventually married George's nephew George Augustine, and after his death George's secretary Tobias Lear.).
